Guided Meditations

The state of your life is nothing more than a reflection of the state of your mind

– Dr. Wayne Dyer

What is meditation?

What is meditation? meditation, mindfullness Simply put, meditation is a practice where we consciously and intentionally place our focus and attention on our thoughts, emotions and internal “world”. It aims to help you become aware of your subconscious and unconscious thoughts, beliefs and feelings. When you sit down, close your eyes and put some music on, you disconnect from your external world so you can become the observer of your inner state of being. That`s all.
I often hear people say “I can`t meditate”

What if I told you that you meditate several times a day? You would not believe me, right? It is a common misconception that you only “meditate” when you consciously sit down cross-legged and focus on your breath or thoughts.

Every moment you get lost in your thoughts or inner world, you are in a light meditative state. You slowed down your brain waves and put your attention on an idea in your mind. You focus on that thought so much that you forget about your external environment and yourself and the thought itself becomes an experience. A typical example is when you are driving to work, and suddenly you are at work, but you can`t quite remember the journey.

Meditation is a tool we use to train ourselves to consciously slow our brain wave patterns down so we can access the subconscious mind where all our thoughts, beliefs, patterned behaviours and emotional reactions reside. Once we can access our subconscious mind with our conscious mind and become aware of what story we are telling about ourselves and our life, then we can start making changes to our “operating system”.

Next question I often get asked is – I am a beginner, how do you meditate? Where do I start?

How to meditate?

How to meditate? type of meditations. The process of meditation is simple. Once you develop a regular meditation routine, even if it is just a few minutes a day, the benefits of this mindfulness practice can make a huge difference in your life. In the beginning, it may feel challenging at times to keep up with your meditations, or you may it is harder to find the present moment at times. However, keep going and pushing yourself beyond your limit. Every time we learn something new, it takes a bit of practice before it becomes easier to stay focused, so remember to be patient and gentle with yourself. Remember, there is no such thing as a bad meditation. You are simply overcoming yourself.

So let`s take a look at the basics:

  1. Choose the time of the day to meditate.
The best time to meditate, especially if you are new to meditation, is in the morning after you wake up and in the evening before you go to bed. This is because your body is in a resting state, and your brain is producing a slower brain wave patterns. So there is less inner chatter in your mind, and it is easier to interact with the subconscious mind.
  2. Choose an appropriate space to meditate.
Always choose a place where you know you will not be disturbed during your meditation practice. And stay away from your bed if you can.
  3. Sit up for your meditation.
I strongly recommend you always sit up for your meditation because if you stay in bed, you will likely end up falling asleep. However, if you need to stay in bed due to some medical condition, then it is a good idea to put a pillow under your legs and/or sit up in the bed as far as you can.
  4. Set a time limit.
In the beginning, it is best to start with shorter meditations that you can do daily and then slowly work your way up towards longer meditations. I would say 10-15 minutes is sufficient while you get used to the meditation process.
  5. Close your eyes and put some music on
It is a good idea to put some blindfolds on and wear headphones with some music playing. This will help you disconnect from the external environment and become the observer of your inner world.
  6. Focus on your breath
Focus on the flow of your breath. This will help you to stay with the process and the present moment. If your mind wanders off, then simply return to your breath. This will help you train your mind to stop racing and stay present with what you are doing.
  7. The final step and the most important one is to stay consistent.
To experience the benefits of meditation and to get good at it, it is essential to stay consistent with it. Remember, every time you sit down to meditate, you are choosing yourself and allowing yourself to become a better version of yourself.
Benefits of Meditation

Benefits of meditation

My journey with meditation was and still is truly a life-changing one. I healed myself from different chronic illnesses and allergies and became a more loving and balanced person who is in love with life. I am more present with people and everything I interact with, which gives me a greater appreciation for all forms of existence. Meditation also made me aware of many self-sabotaging thoughts and beliefs about myself that I did not even know I was thinking about every second of my waking day. I thought the way I was thinking and feeling about myself and life was right because it felt normal. It all just felt like me. But it all changed when I learnt to observe these thoughts with love and compassion and without judgement which allowed me to have one personal breakthrough after the other. I know I still have lot more things to overcome, but with my regular meditation practice, I know anything is possible. But enough about me.
